Christian Divorce/Remarriage: An Intro

My parents are not religious.  But they were only married once, to the same person for 63 years!  Yet I have encountered churchgoers who were on their fourth marriage! Today's believers bring SHAME and discredit the cause of Christ. Jesus allowed divorce and remarriage for ONLY ONE reason (Matthew 5:31-32, Matthew 19:9, Mark 10:11-12, Luke 16:18, Romans 7:2-3 KJV). Early Church father Origen stated that even one spouse poisoning the other or killing their child would not be grounds for divorce. The two become one flesh as Jesus said.

Paul's 1st Corinthians 7:15 is no addition. Rather, desertion affords the strongest presumption of Jesus's exception: adultery. That is because it is human nature that those who were married do not remain single and celibate the rest of their life unless they are very old.  That is, those who would abandon their spouse. This must be physical abandonment for years, NOT desertion for just one to two weeks due to a fight, or "emotional abandonment". And beware of translations such as the ESV's changing the text's fornication to "sexual immorality." Women could take that to mean their husband watching porn is grounds for divorce/remarriage. NO. Only physical adultery with a live person.

There is no excuse for calling up the old law to get a third reason of abuse. Jesus nailed the old law to the cross. Church leaders should know better, despite false ideas of their predecessors who choose to please men over God.  So don't put words into Jesus' mouth that He taught three or more reasons. Yet today's religionists get worse, such as a young preacher having the crazy idea that there should be more divorce. That offends those of us who have been divorced, which is something horrible he never experienced. REPENT.

But do NOT credit Atheists if they have less divorce. One hundred percent more Atheists never marry than the general population, thus lowering divorce frequency. That is a cop out instead of reflecting morals.  For my full treatment of this subject, see my two videos on divorce/remarriage. Each one is 7 minutes and 45 seconds in length.
