Landlords
You might call them building super, executive director, landlady, landlord, lessor, property manager, or whatever. Regardless, it is those who wholly or partially own an apartment or house that people rent long-term, and/or those who wholly or partially control said property. Though this system usually betters medieval feudalism, it can sometimes be worse! Consider the many types of jobs one could venture into, which provide either important goods or services. But Ls provide neither product nor service. They are simply in an advantageous position to own extra property. In other words, a modified form of the board game Monopoly, where one player defeats the others via bloodsucking rental fees.
Since Ls have chosen this path over all other options, I must conclude that almost all of them are bad people. Guilty until proven innocent for your own safety. Especially bad Ls are called slumlords. Note the highly illustrative 1991 movie The Super Starring Joe Pesci. But the problem I have with this movie is that it seems to portray Whites as the bad guys and nonwhites as victims. Actually, this issue has NOTHING to do with race. Both the oppressors and disadvantaged could be anybody and often are. They are individual circumstances.
Before signing any lease: You must take a complete tour of any property first and know every rule of that living situation and its total cost. Yet the proprietor will still try to manipulate you by only saying how great it is and hiding any potential downsides. So, it would behoove you to also talk with other residents and read Internet reviews on the place. Many Ls are cruel enough to disallow pets, which many people see as family members. Most others charge pet fees. These are not like a security deposit the lessee gets back after moving out if no damage was done. Rather, the Ls always keep this either one time or monthly fee. This is sick, because tenants are the ones completely paying and caring for pets, while Ls just leech off the situation.
Landlords from Hell: A) No Maintenance: Though all Ls are legally obligated for all maintenance that is not the result of tenants damaging things, some do anything they can to avoid repairs. For example, a tenant complained about a bedbug infestation. The L responded: "It's your responsibility!" The tenant rightfully replied, "Actually, under New York City's housing maintenance code subchapter 2 article 4 the L is legally obligated to eradicate bedbugs." I add, this is true almost everywhere. And never take their word for anything; do your research. In an apartment, someone's ceiling was leaking. But the L was on vacation for three weeks and did not give out their cell phone number or check their e-mail. So, consider that too.
B) Shoddy Maintenance: Others will do the quickest and cheapest possible repairs. For example, an L had negligently installed a medicine cabinet, which fell on a tenant and sent her to the hospital. Then the L charged her for damaging the cabinet. Another L fixed a leaky ceiling with funnels, plastic tubes, a stick, string, duct tape, and a hole in the wall to drain it. One tenant discovered that their so-called thermostat was just a temperature control switch hanging on a nail which of course did nothing. Then the cases of Ls painting over dirt instead of sweeping it up first, or spray-painting bugs to the ceiling or walls instead of removing them. Having a maintenance staff usually solves these problems, but then its more expensive.
C) Invasion of Privacy: Some Ls installed 360-degree WI FI surveillance cameras which also record audio in tenant's apartments without notifying them. One L dug through a tenant's personal info to see if they got a stimulus check to help pay the rent. Others snoop through tenant's belongings for other reasons. Many L's give out extra keys to the tenant's unit to maintenance workers and others, increasing the chances of items being stolen. D) Stupidity: A tenant complained about a family of rats living in their bathroom and supplied a picture of the situation. The L responded with "No pets allowed in the building." Another tenant said that the hot water is broken. The L asked: "How? Can you send me some photos?" The tenant replied with a pic of a running faucet, saying, "It looks like this, but it's not hot." Many Ls are ignorant of various legal rules, including not knowing they must pay property taxes.
E) Being Inconsiderate: An L locked a tenant's thermostat in a cage so only the L could control it. An L informed a tenant that they would have a showing tomorrow in their unit. Though the tenant said they were sick from Covid-19, the L would not postpone it. Some L painted my entire apartment after my roommate and I already moved in, not before, so we had to breathe paint fumes. An L refused to install a safety bar for the bathtub for a woman in her nineties, saying that it would ruin the aesthetic. One L suddenly entered an apartment without notifying anyone beforehand. The tenant's dog attacked the L to defend the unit, and the L shot the dog dead.
Neighborly or Faithful Landlords? Ignore Internet comments praising supposedly great landlords. We cannot verify any of it, and those posting that are probably landlords themselves. But we *can* verify the case of Dorothea Puente, a landlady of a boarding house. She poisoned to death various elderly and mentally disabled boarders. She then buried their bodies and collected their social security checks for herself. In my country, all potential Ls are required to set aside moral principles due to antidiscrimina-tion clauses. For example, they must host men and women living together out of wedlock, those who engage in homosexual orgies, or whatever. So again, the nature of the job attracts the wrong type of people.
SOLUTIONS: If you are single, continue to live with your parent/s or move back in unless they are intolerable. Don't let idiot society shame you out of it. In Matthew 19:5, Jesus said, "For this cause [marriage], shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife." That is, men were with their parents until marriage. People throughout history did just that. And if not your parents, then move in with a brother or sister. If not that, sublet from a friend.
Owning a Home or Condominium: Married people can escape Ls by doing so. However, know that in the United States, nobody ever entirely owns their house, condo, or townhome, as even after mortgages are paid off, the government demands never ending property tax payments. Regardless, never buy a home with a Homeowner's Association (HOA). These dictators can make life a nightmare and are often worse than landlords. Though condos have lower property taxes and maintenance, almost all have the problem of having a condo association (CA). So keep these things in mind. In conclusion, there is no true landlord or any type of lord except the Lord above.
